Hydrogen technology research needs a hydrogen technology laboratory. These are unique spaces with infrastructure to feed and exhaust hydrogen systems, as well as manage related hazards.

I inherited a disused laboratory following the principal investigator's sabbatical. It needed work before it could serve my group's research needs, so I took on responsibility for rebuilding and managing it. Business cases were developed for new equipment and upgrades. Meanwhile, I led: the day-to-day of user safety and training; and the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment. Overall, I oversaw several 100k$ of facilities, including:

  • Built-in gas/fluid infrastructure (H2, N2, O2, air, deionized water, etc.)
  • Four fuel cell test stations
  • Electrical load banks and impedance spectrometers
  • Atmosphere-controlled furnaces
  • CNC mill
  • And more…
